Maxi Powerhead MP400 Water Pump for Aquarium

The NEWA Maxi MP multi-use submersible pump, previously branded as Cobalt Aquatics MJ400, is built to perform and last under the harshest conditions. Ideal for wave makers, protein skimmers, calcium reactors, nano aquariums, under gravel filters, and hydroponic applications, this power head is made in Italy. The pump includes a fully rotational output, a fully sealed intake for internal and external use, a universal intake tube, an adjustable hanger with cord guide and a 6ft power cord, an adjustable venturi with silencer, and a triple suction cup mount. Additionally, it features a large intake screen for use with a sponge, a 1/2" OD output connection, and a 3/4" OD intake connection.

It is important to note that the MP pump is the perfect choice for use with reactors on reef aquariums. Reef aquariums have high levels of calcium, and areas with slightly higher temperatures can experience active and dramatic precipitation of calcium on parts, such as impellers and impeller shafts. In as little as 4-5 months, calcium can build up enough to stop an MP pump. Calcium build up is not covered by the warranty, but it can be easily kept in check with routine maintenance.

Every 2-3 months, it is recommended to remove the MP pump and the impeller, soak them in distilled vinegar for 15-20 minutes, then scrub the parts with an old toothbrush and work the impeller up and down the shaft to break up any mineral deposits. Finally, rinse the parts with fresh water and re-install the impeller and the MP pump into the system. This simple maintenance will keep the NEWA Maxi MP running like new for years.
